A Co-worker recommended this read to me. It is an adult title. I put it on hold at the Library a few months ago and it just came in! It is an intriguing plot. A seemingly happily married couple decide on an arrangement, an open marriage for 6 months. At the end of the 6 months they will stop the arrangement and return to their ordinary life. The question is, how can you ever return to your life before?
Amazon Summary
Lucy and Owen, ambitious, thoroughly-therapized New Yorkers, have taken the plunge, trading in their crazy life in a cramped apartment for Beekman, a bucolic Hudson Valley exurb. They've got a two hundred year-old house, an autistic son obsessed with the Titanic, and 17 chickens, at last count. It's the kind of paradise where stay-at-home moms team up to cook the school's "hot lunch," dads grill grass-fed burgers, and, as Lucy observes, "chopping kale has become a certain kind of American housewife's version of chopping wood."
When friends at a wine-soaked dinner party reveal they've made their marriage open, sensible Lucy balks. There's a part of her, though-the part that worries she's become too comfortable being invisible-that's intrigued. Why not try a short marital experiment? Six months, clear ground rules, zero questions asked. When an affair with a man in the city begins to seem more enticing than the happily-ever-after she's known for the past nine years, Lucy must decide what truly makes her happy-"real life," or the "experiment?"

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh ( Abe Book)
I started a new job and I am commuting so I am listening to this title on audio book. I haven't listened to an audio book in YEARS. I have been enjoying it so far. This is one the Abe Lincoln list so I wanted to try and read it before voting begins in March.

Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine by Gail Honeyman
This book has been making the rounds among many book clubs. I wanted to check it out after Reese Witherspoon recommended the title on Instagram. I read this book on vacation and found myself entwined in Eleanor's life. I certainly enjoyed this title and would read more by this author.
Amazon Summary
Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.
But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one.
Smart, warm, uplifting, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine is the story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes. . .
The only way to survive is to open your heart.

Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse
My former co-worker recommended this title to me. I certainly enjoyed this book. The book is historical fiction and takes place during the Nazi invasion of Amsterdam. One young girl who delivers contraband to the wealthy finds herself searching for a missing jewish girl. She soon learns of a much bigger resistance than she could have ever imagined. It was certainly a compelling read.

Amazon Summary
Amsterdam, 1943. Hanneke spends her days procuring and delivering sought-after black market goods to paying customers, her nights hiding the true nature of her work from her concerned parents, and every waking moment mourning her boyfriend, who was killed on the Dutch front lines when the Germans invaded. She likes to think of her illegal work as a small act of rebellion.
On a routine delivery, a client asks Hanneke for help. Expecting to hear that Mrs. Janssen wants meat or kerosene, Hanneke is shocked by the older woman's frantic plea to find a person-a Jewish teenager Mrs. Janssen had been hiding, who has vanished without a trace from a secret room. Hanneke initially wants nothing to do with such dangerous work, but is ultimately drawn into a web of mysteries and stunning revelations that lead her into the heart of the resistance, open her eyes to the horrors of the Nazi war machine, and compel her to take desperate action.
Beautifully written, intricately plotted, and meticulously researched, Girl in the Blue Coat is an extraordinary, gripping novel about bravery, grief, and love in impossible times.
Alex and Eliza: A Love Story by Melissa de la Cruz
I was SO excited to read this book. I have recently become OBSESSED with Hamilton the Musical and I couldn't wait to read more about Alex and Eliza. The author took her own liberties to create a story of how these two met and fell in love. I highly enjoyed this love story and I think many others will as well.
Amazon Summary
1777. Albany, New York.
As battle cries of the American Revolution echo in the distance, servants flutter about preparing for one of New York society’s biggest events: the Schuylers’ grand ball. Descended from two of the oldest and most distinguished bloodlines in New York, the Schuylers are proud to be one of their fledgling country’s founding families, and even prouder still of their three daughters—Angelica, with her razor-sharp wit; Peggy, with her dazzling looks; and Eliza, whose beauty and charm rival those of both her sisters, though she’d rather be aiding the colonists’ cause than dressing up for some silly ball.
Still, Eliza can barely contain her excitement when she hears of the arrival of one Alexander Hamilton, a mysterious, rakish young colonel and General George Washington’s right-hand man. Though Alex has arrived as the bearer of bad news for the Schuylers, he can’t believe his luck—as an orphan, and a bastard one at that—to be in such esteemed company. And when Alex and Eliza meet that fateful night, so begins an epic love story that would forever change the course of American history.

Love May Fail by Matthew Quick
I am always excited to read a novel by Matthew Quick. I still could cry when I think about Boy 21. Matthew Quick toggles between adult and young adult novels. This title, Love May Fail, was an adult read. While I liked the book, I would not characterize it as one of my favorite reads this summer.

North of Normal: A Memoir of My Wilderness Childhood, My Unusual Family, and How I Survived Both by Cea Sunrise Person
I read this book this summer around the same time I saw the movie Glass Castle. I found a lot of parallels to these two women and I highly recommend this memoir. There were moments were I could not put this book down. I think I finished it in 3 days. I think it will help us all appreciate our own upbringing and parents after seeing what Cea's childhood was like.

Amazon Summary
Sex, drugs, and . . . bug stew? In the vein of The Glass Castle and Wild, Cea Sunrise Person’s compelling memoir of a childhood spent with her dysfunctional counter-culture family in the Canadian wilderness—a searing story of physical, emotional, and psychological survival.
In the late 1960s, riding the crest of the counterculture movement, Cea’s family left a comfortable existence in California to live off the land in the Canadian wilderness. But unlike most commune dwellers of the time, the Persons weren’t trying to build a new society—they wanted to escape civilization altogether. Led by Cea’s grandfather Dick, they lived a pot-smoking, free-loving, clothing-optional life under a canvas tipi without running water, electricity, or heat for the bitter winters.
Living out her grandparents’ dream with her teenage mother Michelle, young Cea knew little of the world beyond her forest. She spent her summers playing nude in the meadow and her winters snowshoeing behind the grandfather she idolized. Despite fierce storms, food shortages, and the occasional drug-and-sex-infused party for visitors, it seemed to be a mostly happy existence. For Michelle, however, now long separated from Cea’s father, there was one crucial element missing: a man. When Cea was five, Michelle took her on the road with a new boyfriend. As the trio set upon a series of ill-fated adventures, Cea began to question both her highly unusual world and the hedonistic woman at the centre of it—questions that eventually evolved into an all-consuming search for a more normal life. Finally, in her early teens, Cea realized she would have to make a choice as drastic as the one her grandparents once had in order to save herself.
While a successful international modeling career offered her a way out of the wilderness, Cea discovered that this new world was in its own way daunting and full of challenges. Containing twenty-four intimate black-and-white family photos, North of Normal is Cea’s funny, shocking, heartbreaking, and triumphant tale of self-discovery and acceptance, adversity, and strength that will leave no reader unmoved.
History is all you Left me by Adam Silvera
I really enjoyed Adam Silveras book More Happy Than Not, I was very excited to try another book by this author. He did not disappoint. I loved the way this book unfolded with the two timelines. I felt curious but engaged throughout the novel.

The Orphan's Tale by Pam Jenoff
I LOVED THIS BOOK. I read online someone suggested this title if you enjoyed Water for Elephants or The Nightingale, two novels I enjoyed very much. I could not put this book down. I highly recommend it.
